Show Notes
.25 Welcome to the show and intro (and yes it IS Chris’ birthday today and his kid wanted cake for breakfast… naturally).
.00 Nick and Chris discuss their own secrets to good organisation.
.00 Firstly, Nick is all about “time”; business owners generally work 8 – 10 hours a day – and jump back on at night for a few more. Nick believes you must be regimented with your time to avoid burn out and poor health. Prioritise. Get up half an hour earlier. Do yoga. Meditate. Exercise. Whatever it takes. Make yourself priority number one. That’s non-negotiable.
.00 Me Time. Food Time. Knock Off Time. Nick believes you can get serious work done in 4-7 hours with decent systems and the right people in the business. If not, you need to adjust your timing to be productive.
.15 Secondly, Nick is all about “tactical”. Can someone else do the job faster? Are you wasting your time and knowledge when you could be doing something more productive? Software programs, calendar management – look at the tools you use to manage your day. Nick likes to work 15 hour days, Tuesday to Thursdays – and this is how he does it!
.14 How do you work smarter, not harder? Save money – not spend money? Chris talks about the Two “D”s. The first D is “Remove Distraction”. The second is “Discipline”. You can have the greatest systems in place, but if you don’t follow it, you’re in time management trouble all over again!
.00 If you want to work three days a week, 15 hours a day – you must have discipline. Remove all distractions and apply focus to ensure you get all the priority based stuff done first. Nick factors travel time into his calendar.
.10 Intentional focus v distracted focus. Don’t be disrespectful of time. Yours and other people’s.
.05 Elon Musk’s time management philosophy; he manages his day in five minute increments. The dichotomy is that regimentation actually affords freedom.
.05 Have you read the book “Profit First”? In it, Mike asks how you can achieve double the output with half the time and resources.
.35 If you have any questions or thoughts on marketing your business or marketing in general, reach out to Nick and Chris (and remember to ask for your free Quarterly magazine …!) ask@upcoach.com.au
