Recommend a DISC profile – Dominance, Infuence, Steadiness, Conscientious. Depending on the role needed – finding the right mix of these qualities is imperative.

Fair but Firm. Needs to be able to treat people well and also have the difficult conversations when needed.
8.55 How do we assess someone’s leadership abilities early? It’s someone who has the pulse of the people. Are people connecting or resistant to the manager? A key indicator
11.00 The Number 3 Tip: Past hands-on experience. You can know everything academically – but without having done it for real… unlikely to succeed. Need to have grease on their hands. Experience “in your industry” even better still. Check people’s references. Listen to those who’ve worked with them before.
What have they done… what was achieved… financial results… feathers in their cap? Get evidence. There’s a difference between an instructor at Duntroon and actual battlefield experience for real…
17.00 The Number 4 Tip: Hiring and Firing ability. Need to be able to identify talent whether finding or letting go. Have the ability to dismiss workers that aren’t needed or performing. They need to do this without the business owners help.
18.50 The Number 5 Tip: Long term commitment. Need to have stability in their own employment history. Keep in mind the messy time of Covid… but the right person isn’t moving on swiftly between roles. They should be sticking around.
