So, let’s get into another uplifting and enlightening episode of Coaching Conversations….
Time Code/Show Notes
0.26 Intro: Business coaching expert Nick Psaila speaks with Craig from EIR Building….
1.05 Craig’s resume outlines an interesting trajectory, from being double trade qualified to working non-residential government contracts – and how working with his significant other positively affects both personal and professional life.
3.00 Craig talks renovations to minor works – recent jobs plus changing over the checking kiosks for Qantas. An enormous gig.
5.20 Craig reveals how his own experiences have shaped his views on coaching. He admits that he did not want to see a business coach in the early stages simply because he did not want any more work and the stress that went with it. Craig remembers how he taught himself Excel and that he once invoiced Qantas with a spreadsheet. He did everything solo and looking back, realises it’s a very tough road to travel ….
7.00 Life work integration means learning to relinquish control but Craig admits it’s still a challenge to switch off when he is at home.
8.17 The visibility of reporting; knowing where you are at with every job can instantly ease anxiety and bring clarity. Craig is a big advocate.
10.10 Remember, as a business owner, you can’t do everything – and nor should you.
10.35 Why is business coaching such a valuable tool and can it work for you…
11.00 Third-party help in business is not a luxury – it’s a necessity. Craig recalls his early years as a plumbing apprentice in a one-man business.
11.35 It is no longer sustainable to grow a successful and fulfilling business without a business mentor. Ask yourself why you’re in business; what are you doing it for; why are you flogging yourself week in week out. You can and must do better for your own health and sanity, not to mention your family.
12.20 If you are thinking of getting a coach, ask yourself…. it’s not ‘can I afford a coach’, rather ‘how can I NOT afford a coach’

EPISODE SUMMARY
Remember there’s no badge of honour for the business owner who insists on doing everything him-or herself. There’s no medal for doing 20 hours a day.
The bottom line will show negligible growth, burnout will accelerate and sustained happiness – at home and at work – almost always becomes incredibly challenging to hang on to.
Enlisting independent help will move your business forward. You’ll achieve a level of calm and understanding. Not to mention, perspective.
And finally, a good business coach can give you time and encouragement to work on yourself. Don’t go it alone – a partnership with an experienced mentor can bring just the change you seek. Good luck.
